This past week we had 2 matches and an invitational. The weather was much nicer (for the most part) and we were able to produce some good results.
On Monday, we faced Bishop Luers at home where we posted a 168-174 victory over the Knights. It was a nice win over a solid team. We were led by Senior Aaron Neumeyer who shot a 39, the best round of the day. The real hero for the Braves was 6-man Austin Friesen who's 40 was the difference between winning and losing. Austin's scorecard was full of 4's and 5's with the exception of a great birdie-2 on the island green. Matthew McNeal's 44 and Tegan Wild's 45 also contributed to the win. The JV was led by Josh Buck's 49 but came up 9 strokes short, 210-201.
Thursday, we played up north at Lake James CC against Fremont, a team we haven't had much success with in recent years (especially at their course). However, this day would be different. Again, it was Neumeyer leading the Braves for the sixth straight time with a 4 over par 40. Wild and McNeal both had 43s and Keegan Williams shot 45. Our team total of 171 was ten strokes better than Fremont. The victory pushed our record to 6-3, the best we have been through 9 matches in the past 6 years. Trevor Smith led the JV, shooting 49, but unfortunately they came up 3 strokes short of a victory.
Saturday was quite possibly the longest day of our lives. We arrived at the course between 11:00-11:30 AM and didn't leave until nearly 8:00 PM, thanks to an hour and a half storm delay. The guys struggled on the front 9 but rebounded nicely on the back to shoot a 344, good enough for 7th place out of the 15 participating teams. We had a 180 on the front and 159 on the back. The 159 was the second best in the field and only 1 stroke behind Carol, the winning team. Tegan Wild had our best score with an 81, which tied for 8th overall and just 3 back of first place. Neumeyer shot 82, Keegan 87, and Austin had 94. Overall, not a bad showing, but still far short of our potential.
This week we have a match at Pond-a-River against Woodlan and Adams Central on Tuesday and that's it. There is a possibility of a make-up match with Snider in the near future but nothing has been solidified. Stay tuned for updates and have a great week.
