I’m still buzzing over the incredible victory over Canterbury! That was a night I will not soon forget. I don’t know why but I love looking at the numbers—I’m kind of a nerd like that. Here is a breakdown of hole by hole how our team score compared to Canterbury’s. It is an aggregate total of the 4 scores that were counted for the match:
Thru:...10...11...12...13....14....15.....16.....17....18
BCS:...+2...+6...+8...+9...+9...+10...+10...+12...+10
Cant:..+2...+6...+6...+6...+10..+12...+11...+12...+12
I can’t believe how tight the match was throughout. Remember these are TEAM SCORES, not individual… our TEAM played the final 6 holes at +2 over par!! That is incredible. We got off to a rough start (+8 though 3) but didn’t give up. It would have been very easy to roll over considering we were playing Canterbury. But we did just the opposite and FINISHED STRONG!
The other thing that jumps out to me is how tight the match was throughout. Never a difference of more than 2 strokes all the way around. We were down early… fought back… took the lead…let them tie it up going into 18… And then the real magic... Neumy and Tegan’s putts on the 18th green were the difference. Watching them roll in back to back monsters was… what do the kids say nowdays… THE BEAST!! Gives me the chills just thinking about it.
I’m glad we got to experience this feeling, and at Brookwood none the less. Just imagine how much greater it would be if it meant advancing to Regionals. Two weeks from today we’ll be back at Brookwood for Sectionals. We have proven we have the ability to play with and beat the best teams in the city. If we play within ourselves and play our game—not making any big mistakes, it could be a very special day.
